Chevy Centennial Edition celebrates 100 years of pickups with vintage bowties

Chevy Centennial Edition celebrates 100 years of pickups with vintage bowties
The special bowtie badge dates back to 1918
In fact, the vintage-style bowties are probably the defining characteristics of these trucks. Instead of the current chrome and gold badge, or one of the optional black and chrome or even illuminated badges, both the Silverado and Colorado get a navy blue bowtie with a chrome border. On the navy blue field is the word "Chevrolet" with a pair of hash marks above the words. According to Chevy truck design director Rich Scheer, the color and design of the badge was inspired by the badge on the original 1918 truck, as well as other early Chevys.

General Motors will be taking the wraps of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado at next month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but teased the new pickup at an event celebrating Chevy Trucks’ 100 years and attended by the brand’s most passionate owners.

Chevrolet supercharges the Silverado with the Silverado Performance concept

Chevrolet supercharges the Silverado with the Silverado Performance concept It's just a concept for now.The best part of the truck is under the hood. Here, the smallest 5.3-liter V8 is thoroughly heated up with an intercooled supercharger based on the unit used on the LT4 engine in the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1. Chevrolet claims it adds over 100 horsepower, which means the 5.3's standard 355 horsepower would jump to at least 455. That would also mean it makes 35 more horsepower than the available 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. That does present the question of why GM wouldn't have simply supercharged the 6.2-liter, but we applaud the company for considering the potential of more than just the top-spec powertrains.

Good news, everyone – the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will, in fact, have headlights. And projector beam ones, at that. Chevrolet has chosen to release t. Rest assured, we'll be on hand at GM 's event in December to bring you the full skinny on the new Silverado and its GMC Sierra twin.

The modern design of the new Silverado builds on decades of leading-edge design, dating back to the Advanced Design trucks of the late-’40s to mid-’50s and their successors, the Task Force of the late-’50s and the C/K series (1960-2000). The look is traditional (how can it not be, in a pickup?) with modern cues, such as the thin multi-light headlight array, and multi-level character lines along the side that add visual beauty while conveying a sense of ruggedness.

Capability and performance have also been enhanced, with a higher-grade alloy used in the bed floor, making the bed more functional, while reducing the overall vehicle weight (contributed to by other parts throughout the new Silverado.

Not much else is known about the truck at this time, with further details, specs and pricing to be announced at the launch next month. However, we do know that it will have an increased number of models (with different engines and transmissions, varying degrees of standard equipment, and improved refinement in ride and handling), including the new LT Trailboss (one of eight Silverado models for the coming year) that combines a 2-inch suspension lift with the Z71 performance package.

2019 GMC Sierra To Debut On March 1 In Detroit .
The fancy Denali version will also be revealed. With the new 2019 Chevy Silverado premiering last month at the Detroit Auto Show, it comes as no surprise we won’t have to wait much longer to see its GMC Sierra counterpart. Automotive News has it on good authority the official debut is locked in for March 1 in Detroit, which means it’s not going to be on display at the forthcoming Chicago Auto Show this month. Instead, GMC will likely host the public debut of the revamped Sierra at the end of March on the occasion of the New York Auto Show.
