Lexus Open To The Idea Of LFA Successor

Lexus Open To The Idea Of LFA Successor "So you're telling me there's a chance?"Between December 2010 and December 2012, Lexus assembled a total of 500 LFAs and 10 percent of the production was reserved for the hardcore version equipped with the Nürburgring Package. Despite being hugely desirable, there were still a dozen of brand new LFAs waiting in stock at dealerships in the United States in August last year, so it’s safe to say the model wasn’t exactly a huge commercial success. Since the supercar’s demise, many rumors emerged about a possible follow-up to the V10 machine, even though Lexus kept saying no.

Lexus is expected to debut a new ES sedan later this month at the Beijing auto show. Judging from a teaser image the automaker has released, we can already tell the midsizer features a more compelling grille design.

Instead of horizontal slats, the grille of the new ES features vertical lines that orient toward the Lexus badge. The blue badge seen in the image signals a hybrid model will remain in the lineup.

The ES is right on time for a redesign, as Lexus hasn't completely revamped it since the 2013 model year here in the U.S. We enjoy the current model's cavernous back seat, but as the sedan enters its next generation, we hope Lexus addresses its vague steering and poor body control. Because it will sit on the new TNGA platform shared with the Camry and Avalon, we fully expect the ES will drive and ride better than the current version.

Powering the current ES is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine making 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque and paired to a six-speed automatic. If you opt for the hybrid, you'll get a 2.5-liter inline-four and an electric motor for a total of 200 hp. The hybrid, which Motor Trend tested hitting 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, also comes with a CVT. Lexus hasn't released powertrain specs for the new ES, but we do know both gas and hybrid versions will be available. The hybrid may be similar to the 2.5-liter four-cylinder system on the Camry Hybrid.

The Lexus ES will debut in Beijing on April 25.

Lexus Grabs LQ Trademark, Possibly For Flagship Crossover .
This could be the LF-1 Limitless come to life. If you take a look at the Lexus lineup, you’ll notice something about how it names its models – if you consider two-letter combinations names. Across its lineup, Lexus denotes its flagship model with the “L” prefix with the S, C, and X suffix denoting sedan, coupe, and SUV, respectively. Earlier this month, Lexus registered “LQ” in the U.S., possibly for a future model, according to AutoGuide.com. Conveniently, Lexus showed the LF-1 Limitless concept during the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.
