Ford Getting Out of the Sedan Business

Ford Getting Out of the Sedan Business Ford has just announced that it is converting fully to crossovers in North America, dropping traditional sedans after the current generation . The shocking news came as part of the company's first quarter financial results announcement earlier today, along with the news of a new model coming. Sales of sedans are dropping off a cliff in the last few years, as more small crossover options become available. Cheap gas, improving fuel economy, and changing tastes have moved buyers from cars to crossovers and trucks. Sales of the Focus, Fiesta, Fusion, and Taurus have all suffered as a result.

Ford is known to go to the corners of the globe to test its vehicles, but the latest test location is a place you won’t find on Google Earth, or any map for that matter. It’s so exclusive, the company hasn’t even released its location.

The company created a series of performance-driven films called Europe’s Greatest Driving Roads, starring cars like the Ford GT and Mustang Convertible in some of the most stunning driving environments on the continent, from the icy barrenness of Arctic Circle in Norway to the winding seaside cliffs of rocky Mallorca, Spain.

But the Fiesta ST went to a special never-before-been-to location … 400 metres underground.

Why Ford Killed Its Cars

Why Ford Killed Its Cars My colleagues, as well as much of the car enthusiast community, are dealing with a collective freakout upon learning Ford will be killing off all its sedans and hatchbacks and keeping one real car, the Mustang, in North America. Ford is doomed, they say. But I don’t share that perspective—no one wanted to buy those cars anyway, and this came down to just being a cold, hard business decision. Ford Will Phase Out All Its Small Cars And Sedans In North America Except The Mustang And Focus ActiveSo let’s get this out of the way: the sky is not falling and Ford is not destined for bankruptcy due to the discontinuation of the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus in the American m

To mark the launch of the new Fiesta ST , Ford took the hot hatch 400 meters (1,312 feet) underground to a top secret location inside one of Europe's largest salt mines. M-Sport Ford World Rally driver Elfyn Evans was on driving duty for the specially filmed video , putting the

Ford took its smallest performance car to the top-secret location at one of Europe’s largest salt mines to film a new commercial called Undertrack, starring the spunky little Fiesta in the hands of World Rally Championship driver Elfyn Evans.

“The salt is actually like fine gravel to drive on, quite slippery to be honest, especially on road tires,” said Evans of the underground experience. “You expect it to be claustrophobic but actually it’s quite the opposite, a great place to really enjoy the new Fiesta ST.”

The adrenaline-loaded experience is furthered by the sound of the 197-hp 1.5-litre EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine reverberating off what is essentially a 60 km tunnel. The 3-day shoot required strict safety precautions and was overseen by a skeleton crew.

Ford Filed A Patent For A Motorcycle That Comes Out Of A Car

Ford Filed A Patent For A Motorcycle That Comes Out Of A Car Ford might not think it can make a profit off of a Fiesta, but it does seem to like the idea of a motorcycle that pops out of a car’s face. Now, this isn’t something I’d run around the block screaming my head off about, but it is very cool and intriguing: Ford filed a patent at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for a “Vehicle With An Integrated Electric Motorcycle.” That is both the title of the patent and what is being patented it. Think of it like an electric Honda Motocompo from Ford.

“The drama of the tunnels and the chance to show off Fiesta ST’s ability on a different type of surface were a big part of choosing this unique location,” said Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director. “It wasn’t a typical race track, it was somewhere we could drive this great car to its full potential.”
