“It’s a tragic incident, and coming on Father’s Day weekend . . . very sad,” said Det.-Sgt. Steve Bereziuk, who is with the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit.

He said police are investigating the incident as a sudden death; it is not a criminal investigation.

At 10:30 p.m. police officers were en route to the hospital to meet with the boy’s parents.

The pool was in the backyard of a house on Edgemont St. N. near Dunsmuir Rd.

Hamilton firefighters performed CPR on the boy at the scene before he was taken to hospital.
