As they stalked intended murder victim Larry Amero, two men had no idea their Jeep Cherokee had been equipped with a police tracking device. 

The tracker had been installed during an earlier, unrelated police investigation. But early on the morning of Aug. 14, 2011, it provided a detailed electronic trail as the men drove around downtown Kelowna trying to find Amero, a Hells Angel. 

A four-hour record of their Jeep’s movements was detailed Wednesday in B.C. Supreme Court in Kelowna, showing the vehicle being driven between the Delta Grand hotel, private residences, the Hells Angels clubhouse on Ellis Street and the Sapphire nightclub on Leon Avenue.

“Why would you want to play Scrabble? You can’t spell,” his girlfriend teases him. 

“Yeah, that’s kind of true,” McBride says.

Police are investigating after a British Columbia man had around $500,000 worth of rare coins and bills stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in Mississauga last month. The 68-year-old man had travelled to Ontario for a collectibles convention, police said. He parked in a hotel parking near Edwards Blvd. and Derry Rd. on Sept. 28, leaving two bags of coins and bills inside his vehicle. According to police, a suspect — described as a balding man with a heavy build and between the ages of 35 and 45 — broke into the collector’s vehicle at around 1 p.m. that day and walked away with the bags.
