Canada Would Rather Have No Nafta Than a Bad Deal, Trudeau Says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a message for Donald Trump on Nafta: Canada would rather see a trade deal die altogether than accept certain hardline demands. Trudeau said he believed a win-win-win deal was still possible in ongoing North American Free Trade Agreement talks. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer met his Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland earlier Tuesday in Washington to discuss the trade pact.

It took a little under two weeks to fold the paper cranes and assemble the flag , said a spokesperson for U of T . This is a beautiful expression of support for #PrideMonth by @UofT. I’m happy to see so many Toronto institutions lend their voices to celebrate inclusion, diversity, and equality.

The cranes are made from origami paper and enough were folded to produce a fully proportionate flag measuring 9 feet by 15 feet, said U of T’s Faculty of Arts & Science communications officer Sean Bettam. He said the inspiration came from a Japanese tradition called senbazuru, which states that if a person folds 1,000 origami cranes, their wish will come true.

“A folded crane has also become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times,” Bettam said in an email.

Bettam said the idea came from Lucy Chung, the director of Infrastructure Planning for the Faculty of Arts & Science. It was made by approximately 50 people from the Faculty of Arts & Science, as well as, any students who participated while passing through Sidney Smith Hall, when the crane-building table was set up in the atrium.

It took a little under two weeks to fold the cranes and assemble the flag, Bettam said.

Hart House is hosting U of T’s Pride Pub event on June 8.
