  Third Albertan in 2 weeks wins lottery jackpot For the third time in two weeks, a lottery jackpot has landed in Alberta. Thursday's Daily Grand jackpot was won by a ticket sold somewhere in the province, outside of Edmonton or Calgary. The winner will have their choice of $1,000 a week for life, or $7 million, said the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. The win comes one day after a Lotto 6/49 ticket somewhere in the province won the $9.6 million jackpot on Wednesday. On Saturday, May 19, another Lotto 6/49 ticket, sold in Calgary, won a $2.5 million prize.

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning Saturday for areas Smoky Lake County, east of Edmonton.

Just after 3:30 p.m., the agency said it was tracking a severe thunderstorm “possibly producing a tornado” about 20 kilometres north of Smoky Lake. The storm was moving northeast at 50 kilometres per hour.

Communities in the path include Kikino and Goodfish Lake.

The tornado warning is in effect for:

Damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall are other possible effects of the storm.

Residents are recommended to take shelter immediately if threatening weather approaches.

If a tornado or other severe weather is seen, residents should go indoors to a room on the lowest floor or basement, away from outside walls or windows.

Mobile homes, vehicles and other temporary or free-standing shelters should be vacated in favour of stronger buildings.

As a last resort, residents should lie in a low spot and protect their head from flying debris.

Earlier in the afternoon, the storm had been located near the village of Hilliard around 2:45 p.m., then near Andrew just after 3 p.m.
