A cooking mistake involving an outdoor fryer was the cause of a house fire in Essex County on Sunday evening, says the Kingsville Fire Department.

Firefighters were alerted around 8 p.m. to an incident at a residence on Road 7 East. Both the Kingsville Fire Department and the Leamington Fire Department responded.

They arrived to find a single-story ranch-style home already in intense flames.

Firefighters had to take a defensive approach to the burning building. They were still on the scene two and a half hours later.

Damages have been estimated at $200,000. No one was hurt.

According to the Kingsville Fire Department, the incident has displaced three occupants of the home.
