A multi-vehicle collision in Newmarket has put a child in critical condition and injured four other people, York Region police say. 

The collision, involving four vehicles, took place around 7:15 a.m., Saturday on Davis Dr. W., closing down the entire road between Jane St. and Keele St.

Five people in total have been sent to various hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical, police say.

There are life-threatening injuries to one individual, who police described as a child.

Police haven’t released the genders and exact ages of the injured.

Police are still investigating how the collision occurred. They say the scene could take hours to clear up, and the road will be closed until then.
