Fredericton police have confirmed that a shooting has caused multiple fatalities on the Brookside Drive area on Friday morning.

Fredericton police are advising residents to stay away from the Brookside Drive area as they "investigate an ongoing incident."

"More information will be available when we can," a post on Twitter said by Fredericton police.

Police said residents should avoid the area and stay in their homes "with doors locked at this time for safety."

"We are asking people to avoid the area of Brookside Drive this morning due to an ongoing incident," police said in a post on Twitter. "We will provide more details as soon as we can."

CBC contacted employees at the Tim Hortons on Douglas Avenue and said they have locked their doors so customers can't get in or out.

Several police, firefighters and paramedics have responded to the area.

Toronto police have set up two books of condolences for residents who wish to extend their sympathy to the families of two Fredericton police officers killed on the job on Friday. Const. Robb Costello and Const. Sara Burns of Fredericton police died in a shooting at a Fredericton apartment complex on Friday, along with two civilians, Bobbie Lee Wright and Donnie Robichaud.The books will be in the main lobby of police headquarters at 40 College St. starting on Tuesday.Police said in a news release on Tuesday that the books will then be given privately to the families of the officers.
