The story of the man who declared he'd made "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" is being told onscreen, and we now have our first look at the upcoming biopic "First Man."

The film reunites "La La Land" director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Reynolds for a cinematic look at the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong, who made history as the first human to set foot on the moon in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission.

“What fascinated me about Neil Armstrong is that he is kind of a mystery,” Chazelle said in a recent interview with People, explaining why we don't know more about one of the most famous people of the 20th century.

“For someone that accomplished something that is among one of the most famous things that anyone has ever accomplished," added the director, "the human himself is a little bit of an enigma.”

Along with Gosling as Armstrong, the film also features Claire Foy ("The Crown") as the astronaut's wife, Janet, while the solid supporting cast includes Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights"), Corey Stoll ("The Strain"), Jon Bernthal ("The Punisher"), Jason Clarke ("Chappaquiddick") and Ethan Embry ("Grace and Frankie").

"First Man" opens in theatres on October 12.
