Major League Baseball says it is looking into Toronto outfielder Kevin Pillar ' s apparent use of a homophobic slur during a heated game between the Blue Jays Pillar struck out swinging to end the seventh inning and claimed he was quick-pitched by Atlanta's Jason Motte , yelling toward the mound.

Following the exchange - which resulted in the benches clearing - it was suggested on social media that Pillar used a homophobic slur.

After the game Pillar was not asked directly what he said, though he was apologetic for his actions.

"It was immature, it was stupid, it was uncalled for," Pillar told reporters. "It’s part of the game, it's just, I'm a competitive guy and heat of the moment. ... Obviously, something to learn from, something to move on from."
