There have been many opinions on Erin Hills Golf Club this week at the U.S. Open, some praising the course, but many calling the setup too easy for a national championship.
After posting a final-round 69, Jordan Spieth took issue with those who've criticized the USGA's decision to come to Erin Hills, and the way it set up the course.
"I think any time you've seen U.S. Open golf venues work back towards even par, there's complaints," Spieth told Luke Kerr-Dineen of USA Today. "Then now, all of a sudden, they make it tough and fair but people are 12-under so people are complaining, so like, let's pick one side or the other here."
Dustin Johnson hopes timing is right for another US Open title

As much as he hates missing cuts, the Memorial two weeks ago was a good time for Johnson to have a weekend off. It allowed him to spend two days in Wisconsin getting to know the longest course in U.S. Open history, realizing that he would be a late arrival to Erin Hills because of some important family matters.

Soft conditions and wide fairways have produced record scoring this week in Wisconsin, including Justin Thomas' 9-under-par 63 on Saturday, which broke the lowest round in relation to par in U.S. Open history.
"I think it's exciting. I think we have an exciting leaderboard of a lot of young players that are trying to win their first major ... that's great, you can't ask for much more," said the 2015 U.S. Open champion. "You've seen awesome shots work towards the hole and you've seen shots that aren'’t so good end up far away, very few and far between do you see anything that resembles unfair, where a great shot that doesn't get rewarded.”
Spieth's two good friends, Rickie Fowler and Thomas, are both in the hunt for their first major title, and the Texan isn't leaving the Badger State even though his tournament is over.
"I'll probably go back, pack up, and then come back, have a beer, and watch the closing stretch," Spieth said to Will Gray of the Golf Channel.

Rickie Fowler responds to those who question his demeanor .
BETHESDA, Md. — Rickie Fowler’s glass remains half-full. Despite disappointing final rounds in the past two major championships, Fowler’s not looking to alter his manner, shake up his makeup or deviate from the blueprint he is following in hopes of racking up more PGA Tour titles and finding lasting triumph at one of the game’s four biggest tournaments. Time, the 28-year-old says, is not running out, and his modus operandi to majors won’t take on a heightened sense of urgency despite being front and center in the conversation of who is the best player never to win a major. His DNA is to focus on the positives rather than obsess about the negatives, an approach that took root as a child, the example set by his blue-collar parents and grandparents. He’s simply not going to change because he came up short in the Masters and the U.S. Open this year — no matter what he reads. MORE GOLF: “It was kind of unfortunate to see some of the stuff written that was saying I wasn’t angry enough about coming up short,” Fowler said Tuesday during a practice round at TPC Potomac at Avenel ahead of Thursday’s start in the Quicken Loans National. “I’ve always been someone who has controlled my emotions,” he continued. “On and off the golf course. Part of the reason that I may have not looked upset at Erin Hills was because I’m not going to show it. Of course I was disappointed that I didn’t get the job done. “But it wasn’t like I played bad on Sunday.
