Three Jays ejected as Toronto sweeps Oakland

Three Jays ejected as Toronto sweeps Oakland Steve Pearce and Kendrys Morales hammered their way into the Blue Jays record book Thursday afternoon as Toronto finished off a four-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with panache. There were some casualties en route to the 8-4 win, capped by Pearce's grand slam in the 10th inning. Manager John Gibbons, starter Marcus Stroman and catcher Russell Martin were all ejected in the fifth inning in a beef with home plate umpire Will Little.

Marcus Stroman isn't going to concern himself with the opinions of other people after he was involved in a confrontation with the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

During the seventh inning, the Toronto Blue Jays hurler exchanged words with White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. The heated exchange led to the benches clearing and Anderson giving his shrewd opinion of Stroman in a postgame interview.

During the contest, Stroman was also criticized by Blue Jays broadcaster Buck Martinez, who apparently formulated his opinion of Stroman in what he thought were off-air comments.

Martin: Ump 'kind of created the drama' with double ejection

Martin: Ump 'kind of created the drama' with double ejection Russell Martin wants to clear the air surrounding Thursday's commotion in the fifth inning against the Oakland Athletics. After disagreeing with a few of umpire Will Little's calls behind the plate, Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons received his marching orders early when he was tossed from the contest for arguing balls and strikes. He wouldn't be alone for long, as starter Marcus Stroman and his batterymate Martin lasted just one more at-bat before they too were ejected for disagreeing with Little's strike zone.

"He just can't help himself. He just had to holler back over at the White Sox," Martinez said.

Despite the opinions of both Anderson and Martinez, Stroman appeared to shake off the criticism with a postgame tweet:

Fellow pitcher Danny Duffy of the Kansas City Royals decided to weigh in and offer his support of Stroman, too.

This isn't the first time an opposing player or even an umpire has been upset with Stroman for wearing his emotions on his sleeve. The 26-year-old was tossed from a game, along with catcher Russell Martin, just last week for appearing to disagree with umpire Will Little's strike zone against the Oakland Athletics.
