Report: LeBron James has had ‘zero contact’ with Lakers head coach Luke Walton

Report: LeBron James has had ‘zero contact’ with Lakers head coach Luke Walton The Los Angeles Lakers worked extremely hard to convince LeBron James to sign with them this offseason, but apparently they did not need any help from their head coach. Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports reports that LeBron had “zero contact” with Luke Walton while the Lakers were recruiting the four-time NBA MVP. As of Wednesday, the two still had not met. A source close to #LeBron tells me that Bron had zero contact w/#Lakers head coach Luke Walton throughout the Lakers’ entire recruitment process. “LeBron never met Luke at all,” source says — and they still have not met. Walton will be James’ seventh full-time NBA head coach. — Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) July 4, 2018 Walton is only five years older than James, and he was hired as the Lakers coach when they were looking to rebuild with a young roster. It remains to be seen how he will handle coaching one of the biggest icons in NBA history, but the Lakers front office will almost certainly go in another direction if LeBron decides he doesn’t want to play for Walton. We have already seen examples of how much respect LeBron has for the Lakers organization, and that should include the head coach. Him not having to meet with Walton probably says more about how much he wanted to play for L.A. than anything.

Yet he believes LeBron knows more than he is letting on. If Chris Paul , who wants the max, would consider leaving the Rockets and joining the Lakers , it has to increase the chances of LeBron wearing the Purple and Gold mightly.

If LeBron James had a list of things he wanted to accomplish before hanging up his kicks, it's safe to assume he's checked off most of them.

From his three NBA titles to his four MVP awards, the 33-year-old has seemingly done it all. It's not as though he's going to take his foot off the gas with the Los Angeles Lakers, but this next (and perhaps final) stage of his career certainly contains less pressure than his stints with his previous two teams.

"In 2010, when he went to Miami, it was about championships," James' agent, Rich Paul, told Sports Illustrated's Lee Jenkins. "In 2014, when he went back to Cleveland, it was about delivering on a promise. In 2018, it was just about doing what he wants to do."

The Hollywood element appears to have also played a part for James, who has several acting credits to his name and owns a production company.

The Lakers didn't possess another superstar ahead of his arrival, either, so there was (and still is, to an extent) a great deal of uncertainty over how the team would look heading into next season. There's always a chance management will pull off a trade for Kawhi Leonard, but if they simply choose to wait out the year, James could have a rough go getting the Lakers through the minefield that is the Western Conference.

In the end, he's where he wants to be, and doesn't have to worry about getting over any humps or fulfilling promises. Unless, that is, "the ghost" in Chicago continues to keep him up at night.
