The Mark Hunter watch is officially over.

The executive is headed back to the London Knights to assume the role of general manager, the Ontario Hockey League club announced on Friday.

Hunter, 57, left the Toronto Maple Leafs in May after Kyle Dubas was promoted to general manager. Both had been in assistant general manager roles prior to the departure of Lou Lamoriello.

There was much speculation over Hunter's next step. Many believed the New York Islanders made the most sense, given Hunter's ties to Lamoriello.

Hunter, who owns a part of the Knights and is known around hockey as a super scout, bumps Rob Simpson into an associate GM role in London. Simpson was GM for the past two seasons.
